Archives For Michele

Well it’s Christmas. So Merry Christmas to all that swing that way! And a hearty Awesome Chrismahanuramakwanzafestivyulestice to everyone else! To the full-blown Atheists in the room, I say have a good day.

So far I have been celebrating the holiday by remaining horizontal for as long as possible. I have yet to actually get out of bed. It’s been a pretty good day so far. (EDIT: I have gotten up but only to get some food and a Woodchuck cider!) The kiddo got the rest of his presents and had a fairly good time with the Playstation Move controller and the Move pack for Little Big Planet 2. The wife wants to play a bit of Skyrim later. So, I’m basically #winning all day.

But before that all gets going, it is most definitely time for my annual reading of the heartwarming holiday classic, “The Junky’s Christmas” by William S. Burroughs. Nothing says Christmas to me more than this story. You’ll see!

Our friend Courtney is offering to watch our kid overnight. It is going to be Elijah’s first overnighter. I hope Courtney is prepared and whatnot. It could get interesting over there.

Anyway, this gives Michele and I an opportunity for a night out on the town together. This doesn’t happen very often. If we go out, we almost always do so with the kid. We like doing that. But now and then we like to go out and do things that are less family oriented than parks, museums and restaurants. Michele and try to I fit in some solo excursions into our schedules. Usually I get to hang with some people for a bit after I get out of work at midnight, and she’ll go out on the occasional Friday night. Sometimes she’ll go out on a Friday and not break anything. Someone has to stay home with the kid, so us going out together without him is a rare treat.

So, tonight we are going to go out and paint the town red. Then when we are done doing that, we are going to come back home and play some Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. We’ve been waiting for this game for almost a year now. It’s only the second video game that I remember Michele actually asking to get.

In the meanwhile, here is a special date night edition of World Premier Poetry.

Rare Stones

Spare me simple treasures

I want only for rare stones

I will make you

And I’ll break you

Reveal the gift inside that’s come

Falling backwards

Over time

Slow motion display

And once tried but long forgotten crimes

Do you whisper still

And steam from fingertips

Through your windowpane eyes

And broken stained glass lips

I learn of secrets

And tend to fires split

Up until a few days ago, I have been able to avoid/ignore/completely miss the whole Rebecca Black thing. We canceled our TV awhile back so I missed the news media coverage, and I have gotten into the habit of ignoring most internet memes because I find them to be either annoying or mean spirited.

OK, let’s get the preliminaries out of the way, before I kick the rant into high gear… The song isn’t the worst song I have ever heard. I would rather listen to “Friday” than the neo-nazi classic “The Road To Valhalla”. ANY FUCKING DAY, EVER! (Especially if it was this version of “The Road To Valhalla”). It is an innocuous bit of modern pop fluff. Bigger artists have released material on par with the mediocre that is Rebecca Black. I’ll admit that the lyric is pretty horrible, but so is the lyric to Avril Lavigne’s “My Happy Ending”. And don’t get me started on K-Fed’s “Popozao”. ::shudder::
