Things That Move And Can Be Seen With The Eye

Well it’s Christmas. So Merry Christmas to all that swing that way! And a hearty Awesome Chrismahanuramakwanzafestivyulestice to everyone else! To the full-blown Atheists in the room, I say have a good day.

So far I have been celebrating the holiday by remaining horizontal for as long as possible. I have yet to actually get out of bed. It’s been a pretty good day so far. (EDIT: I have gotten up but only to get some food and a Woodchuck cider!) The kiddo got the rest of his presents and had a fairly good time with the Playstation Move controller and the Move pack for Little Big Planet 2. The wife wants to play a bit of Skyrim later. So, I’m basically #winning all day.

But before that all gets going, it is most definitely time for my annual reading of the heartwarming holiday classic, “The Junky’s Christmas” by William S. Burroughs. Nothing says Christmas to me more than this story. You’ll see!

This one  was written on May Day of this year. It was supposed to be the first piece in a project of May/Beltane themed poetry and music. That project never got completed. This poem was meant to accompany the video for “Another May Dance”.

A May Song

And another may dance
And another may sing
And lonely in the square
Little girls spin and twirl in rings

And another may dance
And another year turns
And are we not aware
Of the things that we still must learn

And here in this forgotten wood
And here in this burning air
And here in this cyclone of seasons
The feathers catch my fall

And another may dance
And another heart breaks
And slowly we'll dance there
Until the sun and dreamers wake

Here is the video for “Another May Dance”. It is also on Vimeo, if you prefer that route. If you like it, it would be nice if you would to subscribe to my channel on YouTube, Vimeo or both.

For May Day this year, I recorded two pieces of music. One is an ambient/drone and the other is a more beat/percussion based piece. I had planned to do videos for the both of them and have them out the door and onto the intertubes with a quickness. But, as my wife broke her tibia and can’t walk for a couple of months leaving me to pick up the extra slack around the house, I have gotten a wee bit behind. That has worked out for the best, though. With the extra time it has taken to get these tracks out into the wild, I have decided to release the videos for the two May Day tracks as well as add two companion pieces along with some poetry and make a short EP to put up on my Bandcamp site. I am (hopefully) going to make this a month long project, and release a part of the package in various places every Monday in May.

So today is the official release of the video for Another May Dance. It is a 9.5(ish) minute long ambient piece. This is one of my favorite pieces that I have written. It is a true ambient piece in the tradition of Brian Eno. You can let it wash over you as you passively listen, but active listening brings out details and textures that are hidden to the casual listener. There is a simplicity and calmness to it that I really dig, but there is also a bit of menace underlying the track. In the cycle of May Day celebrations, Another May Dance would be the vigil leading up to the lighting of the Beltane fires (which is what happens in next weeks video).

The Another May Dance video can be found on either my YouTube channel or my Vimeo channel.

Also the two other EPs on my Bandcamp site are both pay what you want with no minimum.
